Canon Develops EOS R3, Full-frame Mirrorless Packed with Full Features to Expand
    Photographic Possibilities, Unleashing the Trio of New RF Lens to
    Reinforce Its Leadership in Interchangeable Lens Camera

    Canon has unveiled the EOS R3 full-frame mirrorless camera packed with advanced features and durability that challenge every shot at all speed based on the concept of ‘High Speed, High Sensitivity and High Reliability’, together with three new lenses to further strengthen Canon’s EOS R System. Designed to meet the needs of professional and enthusiast users, the three new lenses include RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM, the first two L Super Telephoto lenses on the RF mount, and RF100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM, the world’s first[1] medium telephoto macro lens with a maximum shooting magnification of 1.4x. Canon EOS R3 and the long-awaited three brand new RF lens reinforce Canon’s leadership in the interchangeable- lens digital camera market, providing consumers with the groundbreaking technology and innovation while driving consumer’s imagination beyond the limits that have never been experienced before.

    The currently-in-development EOS R3 is based on the concept ‘High Speed, High Sensitivity and High Reliability. The EOS R3 will be introduced into Canon’s lineup of professional and enthusiast cameras that includes the EOS-1D X Mark III flagship DSLR camera (released in February 2020) and the EOS 5 series, including the EOS R5 full-frame mirrorless camera (released in July 2020). The EOS R3 aims to provide professional-level quality for both stills and video capture, even for moving subjects.

    The EOS R3 is the first EOS series camera to be equipped with Canon’s newly developed 35mm full-frame backlit stacked CMOS sensor that makes possible high-speed readout. The camera also features a DIGIC X image processor for high-speed image processing that realises high-speed continuous shooting of up to 30 frames-per-second[1] (FPS) with AF/AE tracking when using the electronic shutter. In addition, the camera significantly reduces image warping, a common challenge with electronic shutters.     In addition, the EOS R3 is Canon’s first digital camera to feature Eye Control AF[2] functionality. When shooting still images and looking through the viewfinder, this new feature enables the AF frame to adjust according to detected movement of the user’s eye, making possible smoother shooting with quick focus when transitioning between subjects. The EOS R3 answer the sophisticated needs of professionals by providing dust and water resistance developed with each iteration of the EOS-1 series, body design with integrated vertical hand-grip, reliability and ease of use, as well as compatibility with Canon’s Mobile File Transfer[3] announce alongside the EOS R3, which support high-speed workflow.

    Get Closer to the Action with Canon’s New Medium and Super Telephoto RF Prime L Lenses
    With the goal of expanding the possibilities of imaging for users, Canon also announced the launch of three brand new RF lenses : the RF100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM, the world’s first medium telephoto macro lens[4] with a maximum shooting magnification of 1.4x. While RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM super telephoto lenses provide professional and advanced amateurs with extra reach that comes with a high level of image quality, reliability and durability. Canon is determined to expand the RF lens range further by providing lenses of exceptional performance and quality, which are suited for various usage and genres of photography.

    • RF100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM: the world’s first medium telephoto macro lens
      RF lenses have the rear element of the lens closer to the image sensor, allowing a new floating method and this enables the RF100mm f/2 8L IS USM to be the world’s first medium telephoto macro lens which have a maximum shooting magnification of 1.4x, which is 40% higher magnification than the typical macro lens (1x). At 1.0x with a focusing distance of 0.28m, a working distance of 11.2cm is maintained. Additionally, at 1.4x with a focusing distance of 0.26m and a working distance of 8.6cm, allowing sufficient space to photograph small products/objects that require specific lighting.
      • Choose Your Bokeh: The RF-100mm f/2 8L IS USM is equipped with a spherical aberration (SA) control ring. SA control ring works by employing electronic cams and two Nano USMs, which gives users the ability to toggle between soft or hard depiction of bokeh (the quality of the blur produced by the out-of-focus areas) by turning the SA control ring. This gives users more flexibility in their shooting as they can choose which type of bokeh suits their shooting best, regardless of whether they are shooting portraits, flowers or insects.
      • Smoother focusing, Sharper Images: The RM100mm f/2 8L IS USM can achieve up to 8 stops of IS through the coordinated IS feature when attached to an EOS R system camera that has in-body IS. Hybrid IS on the RF100mm f/2 8L IS USM also helps to suppress angular camera shake (rotational) and shift camera shake (linear) during handheld shooting, enabling users to capture sharp images.

    The high speed and accurate AF allows quick and agile focusing of moving subjects for still images, while the smoothness of the AF makes the RF100mm f/2.8L IS USM suitable for shooting movies as well. As an L lens, the RF100mm f/2.8L IS USM is both dust and water resistant, which is especially useful during outdoor shooting situations. The RF100mm f/2.8L IS USM is also compatible with the Macro Ring Lite MR-14EXII and Macro Twin Lite MT-26EXII accessories which provide more diverse photographic expressions.

    • RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM: High Quality Super Telephoto Lens
      RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM provide native super telephoto capabilities to the RF system. For wildlife and sports photographers, the long awaited RF400nn f.2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM super telephoto lenses will address their needs with the native RF mount, while delivering the proven performance of its EF equivalent counterparts. RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM inherit the optics and deliver the same high image quality found in all Canon L lenses, while offering the advantages of the RF mount. For example, the minimum focusing distance for the RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM is reduced to 2.5m and 4.2m respectively.
      • Steady and Light: IS for both new lenses have been enhanced to 5.5 stops. Both lenses come with three Image Stabilisation (IS) modes, which are optimised to match the subject’s movement (stationary subjects/ panning shots/ subjects with irregular movements). There is a slight reduction in the overall weight of both lenses (approximately 60 grams) compared to their EF counterparts.
      • Seamless Movie Shooting: Both lenses provide more control over aperture setting during movie shooting. It can be set in 1/8 step increments for both lenses (EF lens is 1/3 step). The brightness of the scene can be changed smoothly even when there is a sudden change in brightness, such as when a subject move from a dark place to a bright place resulting in more natural-looking image.
      • Durable and Flexible: RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM provides excellent heat shielding, scratch resistance and weather resistance quality for most kinds of shooting environment. The mount, switches, focus ring and other parts of the lenses are dust and drip-resistant to prevent any water from entering the camera. The front and back element of both lenses also have a fluorine coating to prevent oil and water droplets from sticking to the surface.

    Moreover, both super telephoto lenses are compatible with the existing RF extenders RF 1.4x and RF 2x. A staggering 1200mm focal length can be achieved when RF600mm f/4L IS USM is paired with the Extender RF 2x.

    Canon also releases the new mobile application[5], "Mobile File Transfer" ,which support 5G (5th Generation Mobile Communication System) mobile devices for professional photographers to transfer an image to FTP/FTPS/SFTP [6]servers through a mobile device at high speed with better portability, convenience and improve the efficiency of the post-shooting workflow. In addition, Metadata can be added to images based on standards developed by IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) that major news companies and agencies participate in. Also, voice memos can be added to images transferred from the camera to the mobile devices on the application. The application will be released in the end of June, 2021 as Free of charge service[7].
