Canon Group in Thailand donated old calendars to make braille books for the Blind
Canon Group in Thailand, namely Canon Hi-Tech (Thailand) Ltd., Canon Marketing (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Canon Prachinburi (Thailand) Ltd. collected over 1,633 old calendars from their employees and donated to the Foundation for the Blind in Thailand under the Royal Patronage of H.M. the Queen, represented by Mr. Pirajphon Thanapatthamrong, Assistant Director of Operations and Personnel of the Bangkok School for the Blind, on 9th March 2023, for use in teaching and learning for the visually impaired. This activity not only provide more learning opportunities for the blind but also contributes to sustainable environmental conservation. In terms of the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, which is regarded as a major cause of global warming, this activity can reportedly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 883.41 kgCO2e. In addition, Canon Hi-Tech (Thailand) Ltd. donated 60 braille flashcards which were made by their volunteer employees, 60 sets of the slate and stylus, 30 storybooks for the blind, 3 carton boxes of dairy milk and bought a healthy lunch for 110 visually impaired students.
Canon Group in Thailand operates its business according to the “Kyosei” philosophy, which means “to live and work together to create good for human beings, society, and environment,” and constantly organizes many activities to support the society and environment. The project “Canon upcycles old calendars to benefit the blind” was held for the third year, with the objective to support the equipment needed for preparing teaching materials for the visually impaired and promote the use of old calendars as well as enhance employees’ engagement in contributing to the society.
